Coast to Culture at These Tampa Museums

When you stay at Beso del Sol Resort, there are plenty of opportunities to fit a museum visit into your schedule. Whether you need to pass the time on a rainy day, or want to give your stay a cultural boost, check out our recommendations.

Dunedin Historical Museum

As we mentioned in an earlier blog, the Dunedin Historical Museum is a short walk from Beso del Sol. It’s the perfect place to learn about the area you are staying in. The museum’s displays change every so often, so be sure to check the website prior to your visit. A popular seasonal event is the Dunedin Express, which will take travelers to the North Pole.

Penny Lane Beatles Museum

For some Beatles-themed fun, make your way to Broadway. The curator of the Penny Lane Beatles Museum is originally from Liverpool, and is very knowledgeable about the “Fab Four.” From guitars to John Lennon’s glasses, you can find it here. You can even have your picture taken with jackets in the style of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band!

Dalí Museum

Add a surreal touch to your vacation by visiting the Dalí Museum. The St. Petersburg location houses the largest collection of Salvador Dalí’s works outside of Spain. You can admire highlights by the eccentric Spaniard, such as “Hallucinogenic Toreador,” “The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus” and a variation on his most famous work (“The Disintegration of) the Persistence of Memory.”

Tampa Bay Automobile Museum

Gearheads and their families won’t want to miss the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum. You can get close to unique vintage cars from Europe and the USA. Learn more about engineering marvels and the endless creativity of these early car designers.

Great Explorations Children’s Museum

If you have come to Dunedin with younger children, you might want to take a short drive to Great Explorations. This museum is dedicated to bringing out the creativity, imagination and desire to learn in every child. Most areas have a special theme, such as construction, veterinary, nautical and health. The museum recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, and introduced a new logo, website and mascot, named Morris the Explorasaurus.

While the beach has its charm, a day indoors at one of these museums adds the perfect balance to your Beso del Sol Resort vacation!
